What a Girl Wants:
Christmas Desires for Her

Christmas is near, and the questions as to what a girl wants for Christmas, are now escalating. Several girls will reveal their desires, however others may expect guys to know exactly what it is that will meet their Christmas gift expectations. Truthfully, most guys have no idea as to what their lady wants for the fabulous holiday. In fact, many girls are aware of this tragic reality, therefore several girls at Fall River High school gave their opinions and gift ideas to guys with no incentive or motive. Fashion girl started out by asking what girls would like realistically and unrealistically for Christmas, and then asked them to give advice to guys who need a little inspiration. “Realistically, I would like clothes for Christmas because what girl doesn’t want a new outfit? Unrealistically, I would like a huge diamond ring because I love having a lot of bling on my fingers. Advice for guys: get her something that shows her that you put a lot of time and effort in the making.” says an anonymous reader. Senior Angel Dobsan said, “I want a zillion billion dollars! Advice for guys: think of her personal taste and get her something that will remind her of how sweet you truly are.” Another anonymous reader said, “To be realistic, I want a trip to Hawaii. To be unrealistic, I want a house in Hawaii filled with diamonds. Advice for guys: contrary to popular belief, it’s not the thought that counts, it’s all about how much money you spend…so go with the diamonds!” La Fawnduh (anonymous student) said, “Realistically, I want a guy who knows how to treat a girl like a princess. Unrealistically, I would like a sweet ride, a speed demon, a tricked out Camero.” Essentially, men should now have a better understanding as to what women want for Christmas. If not, good luck! Just remember to know her personality, because it is a significant key in finding the perfect gift. If the perfect gift is discovered, than one has truly achieved the goals of the fabulous “wow” factor.

MTV’S Hit Reality Show:
The Hills

On May 1, 2005, a whole new meaning to televised drama took place, when former Laguna Beach cast member Lauren Conrad, allowed the cameras to continue rolling as she took her next step into the future. After Lauren’s senior year in high school, she moved to Los Angeles with her best friend Heidi, to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandizing and to begin a prestigious internship at Teen Vogue magazine. Lauren is focused on her internship however drama always seems to interfere with her busy schedule.  Speaking of drama, Jason, her high school ex always seems to be the prime suspect. Throughout the show, they date on and off however in reality, he is the wrong guy for Lauren. Heidi is the all around, “party girl,” who seems to think that the nightlife is more important than her studies. She then gets the opportunity to work as a party promoter for Brent Bolthouse.  She realizes that being a party promoter is the perfect profession for her; therefore school is no longer necessary. Lauren and Heidi move into their first apartment where they meet new friend Audrina. Audrina lives in the same complex and is a receptionist for an aspiring modeling company.  Audrina is the flirty friend who always has a date however; prince charming never seems to be the case in her relationships. At Teen Vogue, Lauren meets fellow intern Whitney who is extremely focused on her internship and eventually she works her way up to the Teen Vogue staff. Whitney has become a close friend to Lauren and accompanies her in many social events. Lauren and Heidi’s relationship begins to diminish when Heidi’s boyfriend Spencer comes into the picture and cheats on Heidi continuously behind her back. Lauren is sure that Spencer is cheating but Heidi doesn’t believe her therefore, major changes take place. Heidi decides to move in with Spencer and leaves Lauren by herself in their glamorous apartment. At this point Audrina decides to move in with Lauren and things between Lauren and Heidi get even more atrocious. Heidi spreads a nasty rumor about Lauren therefore Lauren decides to basically shun Heidi permanently.  This show is full of drama however, every aspect of the show is motivating and it keeps viewers interested.
When one watches television, it is not so much what one observes, but what one relates to in real life. When people watch reality TV shows, they observe the people on the show and relate the situations to their own. This reporter decided to display the opinions of several FRHS students to see how well they can relate to the show. Junior Shea Farris said, “Of course, dramatic reality TV shows are my favorite! I love how the show is real. There is no acting and all the things they are going through, I can relate to. My favorite character is Lauren; she is so adorable and carries herself with confidence and dignity.  Lauren is a great role model for young teens today.” Senior Cody Wager said, “I’ve seen the show a couple times, however I am not regular viewer. I like the girl who has a straight stunning smile, she is pretty fine, and I think her name is Lauren.” Sophomore Kristi Cearley said, “I like the show because the drama relates to our lives. My favorite character is Heidi because she is really responsible and she is nice. She reminds me a lot of myself.  Also, I like Lauren because she has been through a lot and she is responsible as well. She is a really strong woman and I admire her choices.” Sophomore Whitney Kellum said, “I like the show because it relates to the real world. There is a lot of drama in the show, and in reality. My favorite character is Lauren because she has been though many difficult experiences, however she still makes it through in the end. She is a very responsible woman with a great job!” The Hills TV ratings have skyrocketed making the Hills one of the most popular reality shows on television. If one is into fashion, materialism and extreme drama, this is the perfect show.

Fearless Fashion

From The Runway, To The Hallway

Fearless fashion has swarmed the hallways of Fall River High, as many students start off their year with a variety of new trends. While some students remain confident with the styles in which they portray, others need a source of direction, perhaps something new to create a higher self-confidence. Throughout the year, this column will provide: an update on the latest trends and styles from 2007-08, strong opinions and statements from students in this school responding to the column, and an in-depth look on the fashion industry with its many secrets, fashion highlights and news stories.

The upcoming fashion this season is fearless, ultra fabulous, hot off the runway and ready to hit the hallways. According to Cosmopolitan, the runway report recommends, “ the six cool keepers.” One: leather accessories, from gloves to a hot new clutch, leather is making the nightlife a bit more exciting. Two: the laid back blazer. Blazers are chic, classy, and can be worn on many different occasions. Three: the corset belt. The corset belt creates the illusion of a smaller waist. It also looks fabulous when worn with a dress, long top, or tank. Four: twinkly trimming. Sparkling on belts, shirts, bracelets and jeans adds that extra dazzle and glamour, without using tons of accessories to make the outfit complete. Five: the shiny black trench. Trench coats are making a statement and storming onto the runway. Trench coats look great with a mid-length dress and long boots or even chunk heels! Six: rainbow bling. The plain Jane look is out, and the bright colors are in. Rocking the runway with bright handbags, colorful belts and bracelets to complete the look for a great new season.

Mandy

Fashion this year is flourishing the hallways, as three students give their opinion and answer several questions in relation to this week’s topic. Fashion Girl started out by interviewing freshman Mandy Lakey asking her to, “Describe your personal style.” Mandy said, “My personal style would have to be a combination between girlie and sporty. I like just wearing jeans and a simple shirt but accessorizing with jewelry.” Then Fashion Girl asked, “What is your favorite clothing store and why?” Mandy replied, “My favorite store is probably Hollister, because they have a good variety of cute tops that are classic, simple and go well with anything.” The second person Fashion Girl interviewed was sophomore, Hannah Howard. Fashion girl asked her to describe her personal style. Hannah replied, “I would say that my personal style would be girlie. I love wearing a dressy shirt with heels, or a dress with flats. It makes me feel girlie! Also the accessories add the shine and glamour to the outfit.” Fashion girl also asked, “Do you follow the specific trends on the runway, and if so, describe your favorite trend of the season.” Hannah replied, “Yes I follow the trends on the runway. My favorite trend of the season would have to be an animal print shirt or shoe.” Fashion girl asked senior Emily Estes to describe her personal style. Emily replied, “I would have to describe my style as unique. Sometimes I am preppy and other times I am funky. I like to change my style according to my mood that day.” Fashion girl asked Emily, “What would you recommend, if a girl needed advice or a reference toward fashion?” Emily replied, “If I was going to tell someone where to find cute clothes, I would tell them to look anywhere but never buy something because you saw someone else wearing it. Buy it because it makes you feel great or it expresses your personality. Wear what you love, and love what your wear.” Fashion is everywhere and it includes everyone. Discover a style, stick with

it, love it, and rock it down the hallway.
